Challenger Social Night: Picnic in the Park

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Social Challenger is a new, one night a month program that will cater to young people (ages 5-21) and provide inclusive activities. These activities will be directed toward and accessible to individuals who are physically/socially challenged. These activities will be divided into two categories, physical and social. The physical activities will include, but are not limited to, team sports, obstacle courses, relay races and more! Some social activities will be arts and crafts, board games, and team building activities.

Challenger Social Night
  • Challenger Social Night is fairly similar to the program many people already know, “Challenger”. Challenger is an athletic program that runs sports for physically and mentally challenged children.
  • Challenger Social Night is a similar program which caters to these kids. However, this program will help physically and mentally challenged kids develop social and communication skills through recreational activities, games, crafts and much more.
  • Our first event in April was a success! It consisted of activities like an obstacle course, outdoor play, arts & crafts, and games. We look forward to running more of these in the future.
  • Run by Beth Mazzola, Special Education Aide at Melican Middle School, and volunteer buddies.

Volunteers Needed to Assist Participants
  • We are looking for buddies to serve as mentors and friends for these events. Buddies should be at least in 6th grade and ready to help players with the evenings' activities.
